I want to do a better job keeping in touch with all of my friends, new and old, far and near, but email newsletters are too formal and I want to keep it more fun and personal.

So I decided to share this digital "postcard" every month, highlighting a few things that were going on.

I hope you like it - and I'd love to hear from you, too!

Back in the U.S. Visiting Family.
After another great year living in southeast Asia, I'm back visiting Hamden, Connecticut where I grew up.  Coming back to the U.S. is definitely always a shock to the system, and it's funny what stands out to me - like the fact that the roads here are so orderly and completely empty early in the mornings.

But this is my annual chance to regroup and prepare for the next year abroad. It's like hitting Pause on my life and I love the chance to rest up, get a ton of work done, and transform from a minimalist to an online shopping addict, once again.

We were lucky enough to take a vacation (working-vacation for me) to beautiful Maine, where we chilled on the lake, walked in the woods, and ate lobster. Of course it's great to catch up with my crazy family!

Picture
Morning on the lake in gorgeous Maine. There's really no place like it (when it's warm).
Picture
I've developed an obsession for Hawaiian shirts, which is a clear sign that you've officially "given up" when it comes to fashion.
Picture
Smores over a campfire. I was introduced to Smores with Peanut Butter Cups inside - next level!

The coolest gift I've EVER received!
My artistic and awesome 16-year old nephew, Ryan, has been making custom sneakers in a big way, and surprised me with this insanely cool pair of Nike Air Force Ones, hand-painted to replicate the cover of my latest book. It's the best gift I've ever received in my life! Check out his stuff at @GoldStatusCustoms on Instagram or email Ryan

How children around the world get to school.
My passion and life's work is really to help kids, particularly those who live in tough conditions in poor countries. In fact, studies show that the single best way to help the plight of children, women, families, and any society is to get girls in school (and keep them there.)

To help gain awareness, I recently completed a photo blog, The difficult and dangerous journey of school children around the world. It's a good one to take a look at with your kids. Thanks for the support!

It's been an honor to help write the book The Young Lions, about my good friend Judd Reid's legendary career in Kyokushin karate. I promise you'll be amazed! The book will be out next month, and you can get updates on Judd's Facebook.
Picture
I definitely miss the beautiful beaches and wonderful people in The Philippines! It's great to be back in my hometown, and I get to visit California in October, but I already have my return plane ticket to the country of 7,500 islands. I hope more people come visit me this year so I can play tour guide!
Picture
In the midst of all this traveling and fun I've been working super hard but loving it, delivering blogging, social media, and online marketing campaigns to businesses. I even do free marketing work for charities and non-profits, so email me if you or your company needs any help.

That's it for this month! Please stay in touch, have a great one and see you in September!

Your friend,

Norm  :-)

What a wonderful e-postcard. Those s'mores sound delicious, the Nike kicks are one-of-a-kind and the journey story about the children on their way to school sounds adventurous somewhat like your own story! Congratulations to you and your success Norm! Sending you lots of light and Love, Brit

Your nephew's work is AMAZING. Is never want to wear the shoes, they're too special!

Btw, I was talking to a graduating elementary class and their parents about developing the grit to fail forward. Mentioned you and your soggy hotdog story. They loved it. :)

Take care!
